Board of Health Meeting <br />NOVEMBER 12, 1998 <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:06P.M. Reading Town Hall, Berger Room, 16 <br />Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts by member James J. Nugent. Member Nancy <br />Carlson and staff liaison Jane Fiore were present. <br />Minutes of the September 10, 1998 and October 8, 1998 meetings were accepted as read <br />(vote 2:0:0). The minutes of the June 11, 1998 meeting were tabled due to the <br />compliment of Board members present. <br />New Business <br />• Review of Lori Hollistrom's application for a massage therapy license were <br />again reviewed. Ms. Hollistrom was not present application tabled.. <br />• Kristin McEachern and Dorothy Janeczak were interviewed and approved for a <br />six-month temporary massage therapy license until each takes and passes the <br />National Exam. Expiration of temporary license will be on May 12, 1999. <br />• Citizen Brian Powers, massage therapist and owner of The Wellness <br />Cooperative requested the Board review the language at the head of the <br />Massage therapy license application. He requested the language be changed <br />from masseur to Massage therapy and Body Works. Discussion was held. <br />Nancy Carlson made a motion to change the language of the heading on the <br />application. The vote was 2:0:0 to change the language to Massage Therapy and <br />Body Works. <br />• Reorganization of the Reading Board of Health was completed. James Nugent <br />was elected as Chairman, Nancy Carlson as secretary. <br />• Kevin Jablonski potential owner of 15 Cape Cod Avenue came before the <br />Board to discuss the results of a home inspection. The inspected suggested he <br />and his wife get a variance from the Board regarding the height of the ceilings <br />in the building built in 1939. The variance was granted and will be filed by the <br />homeowner after they have passed papers on the property November 20, 1998. <br />At that time the Health Administrator was directed by the Board to mail the <br />letter informing the new homeowners of the granted variance. <br />• Sealer of Weights and Measures presented issue regarding need for increase in <br />fee for services. (see attached rate change old to proposed) Discussion was held <br />regarding the need to raise fees. The 6 six rounding towns charge the proposed <br />amounts. Reading has not raised sealer fees for 20 years. The cost to pay, train <br />and seal, pumps, and scales is more costly. At the present time the sealer cover <br />his salary exactly by fee intact. The coverage for training and travel and <br />incidentals are not covered estimated at $300. The rise in the fee schedule <br />would exactly cover the cost of the entire operation. The vote was taken 2:0:0 <br />in favor of the proposed changed. <br />
