Town of Reading <br />Reading, Massachusetts 01867-2693 <br />(617) 942-0500 <br />RECREATION DEPARTMENT <br />16 LOWELL STREET <br />RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES <br />The meeting of the Recreation Committee came to order at 7:40 PM <br />at the meeting room of the Reading Public Library on Wednesday, <br />December 13, 1989. Present at the meeting were Committee members <br />Fallon, Connelly, Fotino, O'Connor, Kaminer, Williams, Pacino, <br />McGrath, Sullivan, Conover, and Mullen. Citizens present were, <br />Peter Moscariello, Edward Leyton, William Post, and Sandra Sar- <br />cone. <br />Winter Baseball Clinic: Peter Moscariello, head coach Reading <br />High School baseball team, requested the use of the Hawkes Field <br />House to conduct the Reading Baseball School. Dates requested <br />were February 19-23, 1990, from 1:30 - 3:30 PM each day. Mos- <br />cariello stated that Feb. 19th (Monday) was a federal holiday, <br />therefore maintenance workers at the field house would have to be <br />compensated for that day. He requested that, in light of the <br />Rec. Com. fee of his gross being 15% up from 10%, that perhaps <br />the Recreation Dept. could cover the maintenance cost for the <br />holiday Feb. 19th. The request was tabled, pending further <br />detail on actual cost. Mr. Moscariello also requested field <br />house use for his baseball school to be held in July. That re- <br />quest was also tabled with discussion to continue at a future <br />date. <br />A motion was made by Joe Connelly to grant the Reading Baseball <br />School use of the field house from Feb. 19 thru 23, 1990, 1:30 <br />3:30 PM. A 15% user fee to be assessed. The motion passed 6:0, <br />John Pacino not voting. <br />Edward Leyton, Varsity Coach, Reading H.S. Girl's Basketball. <br />Summer Girls Basketball Camp: Mr. Leyton presented a written <br />proposal for such at the November meeting. It would be a clinic <br />for girls in grades 6,7,8 of the previous year. Mr. Leyton is <br />hoping for approximately 25-40 participants, at a cost of $40-50 <br />per person. He requested the use of the girl's gym for the last <br />week of June (beginning the 25th) 1990. Motion made by D. Fotino <br />to approve the use of the girl's gym by the Ed Leyton Basketball <br />Clinic for the dates June 25-29 in the afternoons. Seconded by B. <br />W. O'Connor <br />Motion passed 7:0. <br />Summer Baseball Program: Mr. William Post appeared to express <br />his concern of the decline in the quality of the town sponsored <br />baseball clinic. He voiced these concerns to former supervisor <br />Copeland this summer, yet the information was not forwarded to <br />the committee. Mr. Post was requested by J. Fallon to submit <br />
