The meeting of the Recreation Committee came to order at 7:35 pm
Wednesday March 10, 1993 in the Conference Room of Town Hall.
Present were Vice Chair Fred Conover, members Gordon Richards,
John Pacino, Sue Cavicchi, Ed Hanley, associate member Carl
' McFadden. In addition were staff Ruth Cogan and guests Bob Lynch,
Paul Lucerto and Kate O'Hearn.
The minutes of February 10, 1993 were approved 4:0:1 with one
change suggested by Conover.
Cogan went over the Supervisor's Report. The Pizza Hut fundrais-
ing program was discussed. It was noted that it is not a Reading
business. Conover noted that it would be a good program for a
particular sports program but not for this Committee. The con-
sensus was that we would not pursue this program.
The request of a band to sell their tapes at their Sunday concert
was discussed. Richards felt that it was ok, Cavicchi felt that
it was fine as long as it is not aggressive, Pacino was not-in
favor of it and Lynch noted that the fundraising group for Under-
standing Handicaps does it already. A motion was made by Cav-
vichi and seconded by Hanley that the entertainers at Sunday eve-
ning and Wednesday afternoon events should be allowed to sell
products related to their groups. The Recreation Revolving Fund
would get a percentage or flat fee as negotiated by the Recrea-
tion Supervisor if possible. Motion passed 4:1:0.
Cogan noted that the ski program is over for the season. She was
the monitor one week for the parker bus as both monitors'
families had the flu.
New Business
Assignment of fields: Hanley and Richards noted that they had
gotten through only the spring field assignments; the summer
fields will be ready for the April meeting. McFadden asked who
took precedent for field assignments. It was noted that School
events always took precedent. Richards went over the field
requests. A recess was held while hanley and Richards went over
the schedule.
Steve Sullivan arrived.
Cogan left to attend Finance Committe meeting concerning FY94
budget.
The meeting reconvened. A motion was made by Pacino and seconded
by Sullivan to approve the recommendations of the Field Subcom-
mittee for assignment of fields for the spring session April, May
and June. The motion carried 6:0:0.
School Dept - as requested
Reading Youth Baseball - approved for spring, also the June 6
All-Star game from 11 am - dusk
Mr. Wilson - as requested
