The meeting of the Recreation Committee came to order at 7:OOpm <br />Tuesday, April 6, 1993 in the upstairs Conference Room of the <br />Senior Center at 49 Pleasant Street. Present at the meeting were <br />members Kate Kaminer, Joe Giordano, John Pacino, Steve Sullivan, <br />Gordon Richards, Sue Cavvichi, Lorraine Salter, Ed Hanley and <br />Fred Conover, Associate Members Carl McFadden and Tom Zaya; staff <br />Ruth Cogan and Peter Hechenbleikner; guests Steve Kajander, David <br />Swymter, Renee Dion, Margaret Cowell, Barbara Luddy, Robin <br />D'Antona, Diane Freed, Anita Valentine. <br />Giordano noted that he did not want the meeting schedule to <br />change. Kaminer requested that discussion wait until New Busi- <br />ness. <br />Hechenbleikner introduced Steve Kajander as the finalist for the <br />position of Recreation Supervisor and gave an overview of the <br />selection process. Kajander gave a summary of his background. <br />Questions were asked of Kajander by Sullivan, Cavvichi and <br />Pacino. <br />Giordano clarified that he did not request that the schedule of <br />meetings be changed and that he did not know why it was on the <br />agenda. Salter made a motion to withdraw that request, seconded <br />by Pacino. Motion passed 8:0:0. <br />Approval of the minutes of March 10, 1993 were tabled as they <br />were inadvertently omitted from the packet. <br />Supervisor's Report was accepted 8:0:0. <br />New Business <br />A discussion was held concerning the large waiting lists for the <br />Summer Camp and the reduction of REAP reserved spots from 25 to <br />15. Dion, Luddy, Swymter made comments in favor of 25 spaces <br />reserved for REAP. Giordano asked D'Antona whether she would <br />make the financial commitment to 100 spaces (25 per session) even <br />if she did not fill them. D'Antona agreed to this. Conover <br />moved that the number of spaces per session be increased with a <br />cap of 120 spaces per session by eliminating 3 swim lessons for <br />the public per session, seconded by Hanley. Motion passed 8:0:0. <br />open Recreation program discussion was tabled to the next meet- <br />ing. <br />Assignment of fields for the summer - Richards noted that there <br />was a conflict with Lucerto's new baseball league and Men's <br />Softball. It was noted that Summer Little League would have <br />Eaton on Tuesday and Thursdays, Friday at the Tennis Court Field <br />and one night at Hunt (their choice). Men's Softball would have <br />Eaton Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, the rest as requested. Sum- <br />mer girl's sofball was approved as requested except for the July <br />14-17 (the dates of the Carnival). The remainder of the fields <br />were recommended to be approved as requested. Motion to approve <br />the fields as recommended by the subcommittee by Conover, <br />seconded by Giordano. Motion approved 7:0:0 <br />
