Recreation Minutes
July 28, 1993
3_ ' i
The meeting of the Recreation Committee came to order at 8:00pm,
Wed., July 28, 1993 in the Conference Room at Town Hall. Present
at the meeting were members K. Kaminer, J. Pacino, F. Conocver,
G. Richards, S. Cavicchi, C. Campbell, associate member G.
Roberts, Steve Kajander, Rec supervisor.
Approval of the minutes of June was motioned by J. Pacino and
seconded by S. Cavicchi. The vote was 5-0-0 in favor with new
member C. Campbell abstaining,
Kate opened up the meeting with a discussion about changing the
price for the third swimming session which had to be shortened
because of the early back to school date. It was proposed to
shorten the time period to 12 days and to charge $45. Gordon
Richards motioned to make the third session 12 days @ $45. S.
Cavicchi seconded. the vote 6-0-0 in favor.
The next issue under New Business had to do with new playground
equipment purchased by the Safety Committee at Barrows School PTO
group. Representing the committee was Joanne Gregorowicz, along
with other members. Joanne presented a design of the existing
playground and detailed exactly what equipment would be in-
stalled. A small scale model was also presented. The committee
is looking for approval to go ahead and install by the end of
Sept 93. J Pacino made a motion to accept the PTO's proposal and
Susan seconded. 6-0-0 approved. It was then decided that the
Selectmen must approve the proposal before the equipment could be
installed.
Next up under New Business was the use of "Vidbel's Olde Tyme
Circus" advance clown, to perform for our summer camp kids. It
is a chance for the town recreation program to make available a
quality clown act for the camp children, free of charge. In a
related issue, the YMCA director, Jesse Mraz was requesting usage
of our pool bathrooms for the hours that the show would be in
progress, approximately 6pm- 10pm on Aug. 19th. Fred Conover
made a motion to permit the clown act and usage of our pool
restrooms. C. Campbell seconded the motion. The vote was 6-0-0
for the clown and 5 yes 1 opposed for the restroom usage. J.
Pacino being the lone vote.
At this point in the meeting, G. Richards started talk on the
mishap which had taken place over the previous weekend. All mem-
bers agreed with the corrections that had been implemented to in-
sure that the accident would not happen again.
Next, the committee voted 5-0-0 to have K. Kaminer_ continue as
chairperson and 5-0-0 to have F. Conover continue as Vice Chair-
person.
