Minutes <br />March 9, 1994 <br />The Recreation Committee came to order at 7:40 p.m. on W i:jda it -1i <br />March 9, 1994 in the Conference Room of Town Hall. Present ai~j 34 <br />the meeting were members Kate Kaminer, Lorraine Salter, John <br />Pacino, Gordon Richards, Sue Cavicchi, Ed Hanley, John McGrath, <br />Fred Conover, and Chris Campbell; associate members Gary Roberts <br />and Tom Zaya; staff Ruth Cogan; guests Jo Ann Simon, Marilyn Mar- <br />tyniak, Paul Lucerto. <br />The minutes were approved as presented on a motion by Salter, <br />seconded by McGrath 7:0:2. <br />Discussion with EMARC: Jo Ann Simon, the new Executive Director <br />of EMARC, gave a presentation about changes in direction within <br />the organization. They now offer recreation opportunities during <br />the school year. Cogan noted that now that there is more than <br />one vendor offering this activity, the Town would request <br />proposals for next school year's program. Simon noted that she <br />did not agree with the past philosophy of segregated special <br />needs camps such as Camp Hope. She did not know whether they <br />would be offering the camp this summer, or perhaps offering it <br />with a different format, specifically as a prevocational training <br />opportunity. It was noted that the present Reading participants <br />are 13, 16 and 22 years old. She also offered the potential of <br />staff training for the summer counselors. Hanley and Conover <br />asked for a written proposal from EMARC based on Reading's needs. <br />Kaminer noted that she will be meeting with the parents of the <br />children who participated in the Challenger program for feedback <br />on the summer camp. EMARC noted that they will put together a <br />proposal. <br />Appointment of liason to YMCA/Recreation Field Day for 350th <br />celebration: Pacino volunteered for this. <br />New summer program proposal: Karen Carcia put together a <br />proposal for an Adult Swim Lesson Program. The charge would be- <br />$35 for four weeks. It will be held on a weekday evening. The <br />Committee voted 9:0:0 to approve the program on a motion by <br />Cavicchi, seconded by Campbell. <br />Draft Rules of Conduct for Participants in Reading Recreation <br />Programs: Motion by Richards, seconded by Salter to approve the <br />draft as presented, passed 9:0:0. <br />Spring Field Assignments: Ed Hanley presented the subcommittee's <br />proposed assignments: <br />Challenger Baseball tennis court field Fri nights <br />May 6 - June 24 6-7:30 p.m. <br />Senior Youth Softball as requested <br />Senior Youth Baseball April - June as requested <br />June 11 Birch Meadows tennis crt til dusk <br />j Women's Softball Eaton as requested <br />Metcalf and Eddy as requested <br />Tom Natale Barrows as requested <br />Richard Wilson Parker upper field as requested <br />Soccer spring and summer as requested with the following <br />
