n 1
f '
A
Recreation Committee Minutes
U
June 13, 1996
The Recreation Committee meeting came to order on June 13, 1996 at 7:30 PM in the
Conference Room at the Town Hall. Committee members in attendance included John Pacino,
Dave Bryant, Lorraine Salter, Chris Campbell and Kate Kaminer. Also in attendance was
Recreation Administrator Joe Connelly.
Minutes of the May 08, 1996 meeting were approved on a motion by Campbell, seconded by
Salter, 5-0-0.
New Business:
Connelly presented Kaminer with a plaque thanking her for serving as Recreation Committee
Chairperson for the past three years.
Permitting Practice:
Connelly reviewed his proposal to have the Recreation Committee permit practices, as well as
games, for in town organizations. Connelly admitted that the responsibility would not be an easy
one and that it would take time to develop an accurate system.
The Committee discussed their concerns.
The Committee's concerns were as follows:
- Work load for administration
- The increase in field fee
- How do you permit certain sites used. Ex. (Birch Meadow near water fountain)
- No way to know game verse practice schedule
- No way to make everybody happy
- Leagues should communicate between themselves
- If a coach can only practice on a particular night
The Committee did brain storm some possible solutions to the practice problem.
- Permit sites for single organization use
- Permit days in which organizations can practice. Ex. Soccer M-W-F, Baseball T - TH
Committee consensus was that a problem does exist because of lack of fields, however; permitting
practices would create too many logistic problems.
Campbell made a motion for the Recreation Committee to continue it's philosophy of permitting
games only and leaving practices up to the individual organizations.
Motion seconded by Bryant, approved 5-0-0.
