t.. <br />Recreation Committee Minutes <br />February 12, 1997 <br />RECEIVED <br />TO IN GLERK <br />REtACf G> Ir3 SS. <br />37 All I <br />The Recreation Committee meeting came to order on Wednesday, February 12, 1997 at 7:35 PM <br />in the Conference Room at the Town Hall. Committee members in attendance included John <br />Pacino, Chris Campbell, Dave Bryant, Sue Cavicchi, John McGrath. Also in attendance was <br />Recreation Administrator Joe Connelly. <br />Reading Residents in attendance included Cheryl Schaitel and Debbie McCully. <br />Bryant made a motion to approve the minutes of the Wednesday, January 08, 1997 meeting <br />Pacino seconded the motion, approved 5-0-0. <br />Committee members Claire Bolger, Lorraine Salter, and Kate Kaminer entered the meeting at <br />7:45 PM. <br />In Line Skate/Skate Board Area: <br />Connelly introduced Reading resident Cheryl Schaitel to the Committee and explained Mrs. <br />Schaitel's original roller blading proposal. <br />Connelly explained that originally it was suggested that an existing recreational area be designated <br />for in line skating. Connelly reviewed his conversation with the MIIA. Insurance regulations <br />- require proper surfacing, equipment, supervision, policy and guidelines must be in place before <br />any area is designated for in line skate / skate board use. <br />Schaitel stated the need for such a facility in Reading. Schaitel reviewed an article titled "Have <br />Yourself a Merry Little Skate Park." <br />Connelly stated that the Town of Stoneham was presently in the process of building a <br />skateboarding park, spearheaded by a private group of Stoneham residents. <br />Schaitel discussed her conversation with D.A.R.E. Officer David Stemadis. <br />Connelly asked if there was parental support in the community for such a facility? <br />Schaitel responded that she had a list of nearly 20 parents in support of such a facility. <br />The Committee discussed a possible location for a facility. <br />Kaminer suggested that the Committee and Schaitel not let this concept die. <br />Connelly suggested that Schaitel send Recreation a copy of the names of interested parents. <br />Connelly and Schaitel will then set up a meeting of interested parents. <br />
