V E 0 <br />01 - . . <br />1 of A <br />Recreation Committee Minutes 4 <br />September 10, 1997 <br />The Recreation Committee meeting came to order on Wednesday, September 10, 1997 at 7:30 <br />PM in the Conference Room at Reading Town Hall. Committee members in attendance included <br />Chris Campbell, Claire Bolger, Dave Bryant, Kate Kaminer, Lorraine Salter, and Sue Cavicchi. <br />Also in attendance was Associate Committee Member Dennis Lucyniak and Recreation <br />Administrator Joe Connelly. <br />Reading Recreation Travel Basketball Coaches in attendance included Bob Ohlson, George <br />Tribiano, Steve Forlizzi, Mike Hollis, Jim Gallagher, and Bill Clements. <br />Cavicchi made a motion to approve the minutes of the Wednesday, June 11, 1997 meeting, <br />Bryant seconded the motion, approved 6-0-0 <br />New Business: <br />Connelly explained to the coaches the reasoning for their meeting with the Recreation Committee. <br />Cavicchi asked the coaches to introduce themselves and what team they represented. <br />Connelly reviewed the travel basketball philosophy. <br />Connelly touched on key areas including: playing time, win/loss record, parent communication, <br />and procedure. <br />Kaminer asked the coaches how they felt about the implementation of a minimum playing time <br />requirement. <br />The coaches seemed to agree that the 1/4 mandatory playing time was a good policy. <br />Tribiano stated that the kids on his team played equal time. <br />Connelly explained that Recreation was looking for an 8th grade A team coach. <br />Connelly explained that Carl McFadden and Steve Lane would be running a private team this <br />winter, not associated with Recreation. <br />The Committee and coaches discussed how this team would effect the Reading Recreation travel <br />basketball program. <br />Bolger asked if individual playing time has ever been effected because of disciplinary action? <br />Bob Ohlson stated that he has restricted playing time in past years because of chronic missing of <br />practice. <br />
