G~ <br />Dom` <br />Recreation Committee Minutes P ° <br />Wednesday, August 12 1998 r 2 tl <br />4 <br />The Recreation Committee meeting came to order at 7:30 PM in the Conference Room at <br />Reading Town Hall. Committee members in attendance included Alan Beaulieu, Sue <br />Cavicchi, Chris Campbell, Dave Bryant, Claire Bolger and Lorraine Salter. Also in <br />attendance were Associate Committee member Marc Nelson, Associate Committee <br />member Bernie Winne, and Recreation Administrator Joe Connelly. <br />Cavicchi made a motion to approve the minutes of the Wednesday, July 08, 1998 <br />meeting, Campbell seconded the motion, approved 6-0-0. <br />Committee member Dennis Lucyniak entered the meeting at 7:45 PM. <br />Connelly reviewed his role as Acting Department Head of Community Development. <br />The Committee discussed RUS request to not fill Castine Field for public skating during <br />the Winter of 1998/1999. <br />Connelly asked the Committee two questions: <br />1) Do you have enough information to make a decision on this issue? <br />2) Would you like to hold a public meeting on this issue at our September meeting? <br />Campbell suggested that a public hearing be held. <br />Cavicchi suggested that Connelly advertise a time limit for discussion on this issue. <br />Bryant suggested that holding a public hearing will assist Recreation in dealing with <br />residents concerns. <br />Beaulieu stated that it should be made clear that this decision is for one year and will be <br />evaluated after such time. <br />The Committee will hold a public hearing on this issue at the September meeting. <br />Connelly asked the Committee for nominations for a Committee representative to the <br />Open Space Committee. <br />Committee member Jack Downing entered the meeting at 8:05 PM. <br />Salter nominated Downing for the position, seconded by Cavicchi, motion approved 8-0- <br />0. <br />Connelly discussed conversations with the Reading Band Parents regarding the use of a <br />lighted field for marching practice on Wednesday evenings during the Fall. <br />
