Council on Aging Board Meeting
Senior Center - Pearl Street School
June 12, 1989
Present: Lois Bond, Gladys Cail, Barbara Doucette, Dorothy
Foxon, Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, Barbara Ritchie,
Loretta Spaulding
Absent: Frank Day, Irving Stackpole, Ruth Vitkovich
Meeting was called to order at 5:48 P.M. by Chairperson GFladys
Cail at the Senior Center, Pearl Street School.
Minutes of the May meeting were accepted on a motion by Barbara
Doucette and seconded by Ginny Lane.
The Treasurer's Report was accepted. Seventy-four percent of a
projected ninety-one point six (91.6) percent of the budget to
date has been spent.
Director's Report
Lois handed out the May financial report.
Lois recently attended both the Governor's Conference and Legis-
lative Breakfast whereby she reported that there is competition
between elders and children for same dollars.
Reading Municipal Electric Company will include a Heat Stress
brochure with the August billing.
Old Business
Linda Nordberg reported on the May meeting of the Senior Center
Location Study. The question was asked of the Board of Selectmen
as to whether the fire station is structurally sound. Tony Flet-
cher is unable to do a thorough check at this time of the fire
station due to renovations at the Town Hall and Annex. Board of
Selectmen would like to know senior center Location Committee's
next choice if fire station is not accepted. This study is on
hold for now.
Survey - Dorothy Foxon suggested that the seniors have an infor-
mational brainstorming session at a social to find out if their
needs are being met and that outreach workers can question the at
home seniors. It was felt by the Board committee that these ap-
proaches, as well as having open houses would be less threatening
to the seniors in getting input rather than have a written survey
to be filled out which many seniors would put in their drawer and
forget about.
