Council on Aging Board Meeting <br />Room 16 - Town Hall <br />February 13, 1989 <br />Present: Gladys Cail, Barbara Doucette, Dorothy Foxon, Linda <br />Nordberg, Gail Rourke, Loretta Spaulding, Irving Stackpole, Ruth <br />Vitkovich, Lois Bond. Present for the Fire Station tour: Bette <br />Pack, Marie Patterson, Ruth Cogan, Peter Hechenbleikner. <br />Absent: Ginny Lane <br />A tour of the Fire Station was made at 5:30 p.m. to explore the <br />site as a potential location of the Senior Center. Initial im- <br />pression was favorable and the possibilities were noted. <br />Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairperson Gladys <br />Cail in Room 16 of the Town Hall. <br />Minutes of the January meeting were accepted on a motion by Ir- <br />ving Stackpole and seconded by Barbara Doucette; 8-0-0. <br />The Treasurer's Report was accepted on a motion by Irving Stack <br />pole and seconded by Dorothy Faxon; 8-0-0. Forty seven percent of <br />a projected fifty eight percent of the budget to date has been <br />spent. <br />The Director's Report was accepted on a motion by Irving Stack- <br />pole and seconded by Gail Rourke; 8-0-0. Expanded notes on the <br />Director's Report included the following: 1.) the vial of Life <br />project with Barrows School will be filmed by Channel 3; a copy <br />of the film could be shown on a VCR at the Senior Center; 2.) ad- <br />ditional AARP driving classes can be requested; 3.) Discretionary <br />Grant Review Committee action was severe regarding third year <br />requests for the same project. Reading's Coordinator of Volunteer <br />Grant falls within this category. It was written this year to in- <br />clude intergenerational activities which is an EOEA priority for <br />1990. The importance of this position becomes-evident because the <br />majority of Reading's services to elders are conducted by volun- <br />teer efforts. <br />Old Business: <br />The lift is installed at the Senior Center and is awaiting in- <br />spection by the State Inspector. It is definitely a ride-in-a- <br />chair model. <br />Linda Nordberg shared a draft volunteer policy to be perused by <br />staff and other interested persons. It will be on the March <br />agenda. <br />A Survey Committee was appointed to formulate an instrument that <br />would determine how the Council on Aging is perceived; what the <br />1 <br />
