Council on Aging Board Meeting <br />Room 16 - Town Hall <br />January 9, 1989 <br />Present: Gladys Cail, Barbara Doucette, Ginny Lane, Linda <br />Nordberg, Gail Rourke, Loretta Spaulding, Irving Stackpole, Ruth <br />Vitkovich, Barbara Ritchie (Patrons for Older Adults), Lois Bond, <br />Bette Pack. <br />Absent: Arleen Bazarian, Dorothy Foxon. <br />Meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by Chairperson Gladys <br />Cail. <br />Bette Pack, Outreach Worker, in her staff presentation, said that <br />the core of her job is working with individuals, the agencies <br />that can address and assist the -individual's need, and the <br />family's involvement with the individual. Crisis intervention <br />counseling deals with where people are and how they can remain <br />where they want to be. Ms Pack observes people's lonliness, the <br />lack of homemakers available from Mystic Valley Elder Services, <br />the local taxi service, and an increased need for companionship. <br />Ensuing discussion concluded that people need to know what serv- <br />ices are available before the need arises. Appreciation was <br />expressed for the fine work Ms Pack is doing within the com- <br />munity. <br />Minutes of the December meeting were accepted by unanimous vote <br />with no changes. <br />The Treasurer's Report was accepted. Copies of the budget were <br />distributed and a "walk through" proceeded. <br />Shopping Assistance Grant: salary is covered by MVES <br />grant and donations; Enid Schmuch is Coordinator; <br />funded for 16 hrs. by grant since FY186 <br />Revolving Fund: (Elder Services General Assistance Fund): <br />donations to aid situations; referrals from MVES and <br />within community <br />Coordinator of Volunteers: EOEA Discretionary Grant not yet <br />received for FY'89; Lee Roberts is Coordinator; funded <br />by grant for 10 hrs. since FY186 <br />Elder Affairs Grant: EOEA Formula Grant totaling $7333 based <br />upon 1980 census of elder population; Marie Patterson, <br />Meals on Wheels Coordinator,grant: 2.5 hours; Lee <br />Roberts, Friendly Visitor Coordinator, grant for <br />12 hours; also monies for meetings and elder dues; <br />Grant monies will carry over to the next Fiscal Year; <br />grants are on a fiscal calendar different from town's <br />The Director's Report was corrected to read December 1988. Update <br />was given on the installation of the lift at Pearl Street Senior <br />Center. The lift will be the full width of the stair with a ramp <br />1 <br />
