x <br />u <br />COUNCIL ON AGING <br />IVES <br />"J CLERK <br />Board Meeting - June 8, 1987 <br />MASS. <br />The meeting convened at 5:30 in the Dining Room of the Senior CeMrNOV -b P 3: 2 <br />at 52 Sanborn Street. <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: R. Felone; A. Jellison; B. Doucette; W. Baldwin; C. Gail; <br />R. Gibbons; R. Montague; J. Soule; S. Tine; D. Fantasia; <br />L. Spaulding; G. Rourke and staff member Rheta McKinley. <br />ABSENT: None <br />The meeting opened with Emmett Schmarsov of the Executive Office of Elder <br />Affairs who gave a talk on Board Training and How To Be A Good Board <br />Member. The following are highlights of his presentation: <br />It is important to have all older people know location of the Senior <br />Center and what programs and activities are available. <br />What is the total for the Council on Aging budget and how does <br />it break down per Senior Citizen. <br />Council on Aging Board and residents should advocate for legislation <br />of issues concerning older people and keep fellow citizens informed. <br />Outreach is an important role of the Council on Aging and also, <br />important is the education of the community to the roll of the <br />Council on Aging., <br />The Council on Aging Board should be more involved in planning <br />programs and activities for older people. Organize the Seniors <br />for political reasons and become more visible.. <br />Send the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee and all town meeting <br />members current information concerning the Council on Aging. <br />The Board Members felt this was a very interesting and worthwhile <br />program, giving them "food for thought". <br />A motion was made, seconded and voted to accept the minutes of the <br />previous meeting. <br />The Financial Report was read and accepted. There was discussion of monies <br />remaining at the end of the year. The balance of the budget is in amount of <br />$10,975. <br />The report of the Administrative Secretary was accepted with no <br />discussion.. <br />
