COUNCIL ON AGING <br />Minutes, November 9, 1987 <br />The Reading Council on Aging met on November 9, 1987 at 5:30 p.m. <br />All Council members were present; Barbara Ritchie represented the <br />Patrons for Older Adults. <br />Minutes of previous meeting <br />The Secretary's Report was read and approved. Treasurer reported that <br />the budget was on target with 23% expended out of projected 25%. <br />Administrative Secretary's Report <br />Rheta's report was reviewed. Shortage of staffing continues to be a <br />problem. Illness among the staff and required attendance at numerous <br />workshops and seminars contributed to the lack of inadequate staffing. <br />Rheta reported the awarding of a formula grant of $7,333. for FY 88. <br />Budget <br />Deadline for budget submission has been extended.. There was a dis- <br />cussion regarding raising mileage for Outreach Worker and Meals on <br />Wheels Coordinator; present figure is $300. a month. Rheta is meeting <br />with the Town Manager on November 18 re COA budget. <br />Advisory Committee <br />There was a lengthy discussion as to type, purpose and necessity of an <br />Advisory Committee.. Finally, motion was made, seconded and VOTED <br />that an Advisory Committee be established comprised of 12_`members; e.g., <br />2 seniors from each senior housing facility (Tannerville, Sanborn Place <br />and Cedar Glen), and 6 seniors at-large, to act as liaisons between the . <br />elder community and the GOA. It was noted that it would be helpful to <br />have a list of contact people for the Board to call on for special projects <br />or problems. These people would include professionals who could share <br />their expertise with the COA. <br />Needs Assessment <br />The Needs Assessment Committee, headed by Barbara, presented a survey for <br />the board's review and comments. There was much discussion and additions <br />and deletion were suggested. After discussion the motion was made, seconded <br />and VOTED that the assessment as presented be revised and presented at the <br />December meeting for review and approval. <br />Holiday Program <br />t <br />It was decided that a Holiday Party be held on Sunday, December 13, from <br />1 to 3 p.m., in the form of an open house, Arnold Berger has offered to <br />
