March 27, 2006 Approved 4110106, 4-0 WEST STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION HEARING MINUTES Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, MA 01867 Michael T. Gray, ALA, Chairman, Susan Patterson, Vice-Chairman, Kathryn Greenfield, Secretary, Dorothy Casolaro, David Kruh Members present: Members absent: P Michael Gray none Kathryn Greenfield Others present: Dorothy Casolaro Paul Turecamo, Applicant Susan Patterson Nicholas Safma, Architect David Kruh Virginia Adams, Historical Com~issioh Public Hearing re: Ap l~ication or Certificate for 237 West Street - #0601 The Hearing was called to order at 7:30 p.m. ➢ MG introduced members of the Commission and noted that Susan Patterson would be recused from the discussion and the vote, as she is a friend of the Applicant. ➢ KG read the public notice. MG noted the following dates: o Application received 2/17/06 o Hearing posted for 3/27/06 o Notice published 3/13/06 & 3/20/06 o Hearing decision deadline 4/17/06 ➢ MG noted the completeness of the Application, which is for an addition to the existing house at 237 West Street. (a copy of the application is attached hereto) ➢ The Applicant further noted that their intention was to make the addition appropriate in style and scale to the existing house. He stated that the existing house has cedar shingles and the siding on the addition will be clapboard. They remain undecided as to whether they will also replace the existing cedar shingles with clapboard or leave the cedar shingles in place. ➢ KG asked the Applicant to confirm, if he knew, the year the house was built. He confirmed that, to the best of his knowledge, it was built in 1929. ➢ The Applicant was informed of the West Street improvement project, in the event it may have an impact on new steps to the sidewalk. A The Applicant stated that there are no changes planned to the roof, portico, or anything on the front of the house. Their plan is to reuse windows from the upstairs in the new addition. ➢ There were no questions or comments from the public. ➢ The Commission approved, by a vote of 4-0, the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness for the proposed project at 237 West Street as presented. The Certificate is valid for one year. ➢ MG will create and sign the Certificate, and submit it to the Building Inspector & Town Clerk, and forward a copy to the Applicant before the deadline of April 17, 2006 The hearing was closed at 7:45 p.m.
