August 28, 2006 WEST STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION MINUTES Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, MA 01867 Susan Patterson, Chairman, Michael T. Gray, AIA, Vice-Chairman, Dorothy Casolaro, Secretary, David Kruh, Kathryn Greenfield Members present: Susan Patterson Dorothy Casolaro Kathryn Greenfield David Kruh Michael Gray The meeting was called to order at 7: 05 p.m., with a quorum present. >C:) 70 C) rn Approval of Minutes-' , The minutes of 7/24/06 were reviewed and approved without changes, the minutes ofip;,, 8/2/06 were amended and accepted, by a vote of 5-0. Kathryn explained the procedureafior filing final copies of the approved minutes with the town clerk's office.` General Business- The Commission discussed the application received for rear deck addition at 178 West Street, and determined, by a vote of 5-0, that the Commission issue a certificate of non- applicability due to the fact that the proposed project cannot be seen from the street. Susan will bring the certificate to the town clerk's office and copies will be distributed. The Commission reviewed the drawings for proposed signage which the Town Manager had approved. Kathy and Susan will meet with Peter to provide the Commission's imput. Public Hearing- 196 West Street - proposed replacement of front entry roof: Chairman Susan Patterson opened the hearing at 7:30 p.m. David read the hearing notice. After introductions, the applicants reviewed the project and drawings. Discussion followed regarding the planned changes to the property. A motion was made to close the hearing, which was approved by a vote of 5-0 at 7:45. Comment followed in which Kathryn stated that her preference was to keep the original beams and Michael agreed. Susan moved to approve the application with the proviso that if the opportunity exists to keep the original beams, it would be acceptable to the Commission. Vot 5 -0 in favor. The procedure to get the approved certificate to the building inspector was reviewed. Next Meeting- September 18,2006 at 7:30 pm.
