Reading Municipal Light Board
Executive Minutes
Date: February 24, 1998
Location: 230 Ash Street, Reading, MA 01867
Time: 10:10 P.M.
Attendees: Messrs. Pacino, Ames, Hughes, Burditt and Swyter
Mr. Rucker
1. MMWEC GBR Litigation
Memorandum to Walter McGrath, James Smith, Jack LeMieur, Wayne Snow,
Savas Danos, Scott Edwards and Len Rucker from Ken Barna and Wayne R.
Frigard regarding MMWEC GBR Arbitration.
Mr. Rucker updated the Board on this arbitration.
2. Union Negotiations
Mr. Rucker warned the Board that they will soon be hearing complaints about poor
morale and bad things Mr. Rucker is doing since the negotiations are getting to the
- tough issues. The union wants a no-change contract with a * 4% to 41/2% wage increase.
We want a 2% to 2!/2% with no-changes in the contract. They also want multiple year
contracts. Mr. Rucker is indifferent on the number of years. He is not using public
money for negotiations; negotiations are held after normal work hours.
Mr. Rucker said that a no-change contract might get to 3%, just to settle the issue.
Anything over 3% won't come to them until they make fundamental changes in
flexibility and productivity. ,
3. Motion to Adjourn
Mr. Burditt moved to revert to Regular Session for the purpose of adjournment. Mr. Swyter
seconded. The Board voted: Mr. Ames - Aye, Mr. Hughes - Aye, Mr. Pacino - Aye, Mr.
Burditt - Aye, and Mr. Swyter - Aye.
Respectfully submitted,
Willard Bttrditt s
Secretary Pro Tem
prc
