Minutes of the Board of Library Trustees Meeting <br />Monday, March 15, 2010 F ti_ C E' V E D <br />IOV CLERK <br />Attending: David Hutchinson, Chair; Vicki Yablonsky; Cherrie Dubois; Karp to -Pik 5 S. <br />Curtis; Ruth Urell, Director <br />Meeting called to order 7:04pm 2010 APR 13 P 1. 51 <br />Minutes approved unanimously (Storti/Yablonsky) <br />Financial Report (R. Urell) <br />• Discussion of budget form and encumbrances <br />• Transfer from Finance Committee was requested and approved by the Finance <br />Committee for the shelving in the Children's Room <br />Statistical Report (R. Urell) <br />• Increase in circulation continues to be steady with notable increase in Adult <br />audiovisual circulation <br />• Children's circulation shows high percentage of books relative to audiovisual <br />Foundation <br />• No report <br />Friends <br />• Travel photo contest display on main floor; number of entries larger than anticipated <br />• 8 houses committed for the house tour; 90 volunteers needed to host <br />Director's Report (R. Urell) <br />• Bill Hecht, new President of the Foundation, and a library volunteer joined Ruth and staff <br />members at the State House. They met with Rep. Brad Jones; Sen. Tisei's aide joined <br />them for lunch; Sen. Tisei met with Ruth and other librarians; Corinne and Ruth met with <br />Rep Jim Dwyer who agreed to join the Library Caucus <br />• The Congressmen listened with interest and expressed support for libraries. They are <br />interested in hearing from citizens that libraries are a priority <br />• Letters to legislators in support of libraries are welcome <br />• Staff Day, Friday, March 12th; tour of the newly built Cambridge Public Library with <br />Director Susan Flannery (past Director of RPL); staff viewed the Harvard Book Store <br />book printing machine named "Paige Guttenberg" <br />• Ruth attended Kennedy School program re: Public Policy and new software tools for <br />Rocial media project to set-up-policies/parameters for interactive communication to <br />promote more effective town government <br />• Children's Room shelving to be delivered; Facilities has been helpful in preparing wall <br />supports; money may be saved by having Facilities install the shelves <br />• Current weather has caused water problems in the library basement and roof attic, <br />problem with flashing and area around chimneys particularly <br />• Annual Report distributed <br />
