11/13/02 <br />HRAC MINUTES FOR Oct 10,2002 <br />1. Meeting began at 7:35 PM. Those present were Ed Toland, P6hf <br />c <br />c <br />Kelley, Margaret Soli, Phil Maher, Jim Kiegley and Robert Silva = <br />Police Chief. to P 2:02 <br />2. Chief Silva reported his experiences and observations coming <br />from a special meeting in Texas where he gave a talk at a seminar <br />on violence at youth sporting events. The conference <br />recommended athletic directors be certified professional managers <br />and background checks for volunteer coaches be done help to set <br />boundaries and manage parent participation better. Certification is <br />not now usually done in this part of the country. <br />3. Jim Kiegley and Margaret opened discussion concerning how <br />bullying exist and is being addressed in the Reading schools. <br />4. The minutes of the previous meeting Sep. 12, 02 were corrected <br />and approved. <br />5. The pamphlet for distribution was discussed and a new design is <br />currently being worked on. <br />6. A discussion was initiated concerning having guests from <br />various organized sports in the town come and present current <br />standards and their views about handling possible violence within <br />sporting programs. An agenda for an open discussion at one of our <br />meetings may be planned inviting interested persons and parents of <br />children in youth sports to attend. <br />7. Margaret brought <br />up a discussion of possible implications of some teachers being <br />discriminated against in the proposed question on the Nov. ballot. <br />The discussion also considered the impact on students. <br />
