1 <br />HUMAN RELATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ' <br />MINUTES ' <br />September 1, 2005 7:30PM at Police Station First Floor Community Room r. , <br />Present: Margaret Soli, Chair, Chief J. Cormier, C. McDonald, N. Namji and P. Kelley members. <br />Margaret Soli gave a report on the attendance of Reading students at Anytown. <br />The members reviewed the film clips produced by Religion & Ethics Weekly, a <br />production of Thirteen/WNET, a PBS station, and funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc. and the <br />Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The first segment was entitled "Islam & Democracy", about <br />5.29 minutes in length comprising mainly an interview with Seyyed Hossein Nasr, University <br />Professor of Islamic Studies at George Washington University, by Bob Abernethy of the <br />program. The second segment on the same general topic discussed Iraqi Shiites, about 8.49 <br />minutes in length, and was mainly a report by Kate Seeyle with interviews with several parties. <br />Chief Cormier volunteered to run the tapes, and to illustrate how a tape could be stopped <br />from time to time to introduce times for discussion. The members examined the manual for the <br />discussion points. <br />The minutes for June 2 were approved. <br />Following the practice run, it was agreed that Nancy Namji would lead the discussion, <br />Margaret Soli agreed to make copies of pertinent parts of the manual for members to review <br />before the October meeting Margaret also distributed some flyers which she would be posting and <br />requested others to do likewise and Paul Kelley was to send an e-mail to the head of the Clergy <br />Association. The members agreed to meet a week prior to the public meeting just to practice for <br />the program <br />The committee adjourned at 9: 00 PM. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Paul A.
