:1GlW ' <br />RF 1, <br />ClI tA <br />~S. <br />2001 AUG N P 2: 4W, <br />HUMAN RELATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />MINUTES <br />April 2, 2009, 7:30PM at Police Station Community Conference Room <br />Present: Nancy Najmi, Chair, Margaret Soli, Karen Janowski, Lori Hodin, Monique <br />Gnanaratnam, Chief Cormier, C. McDonald, P. Kelley, members; Also present Joyce Barolak, <br />from the U-U and Rachel Vinciguerra, High School student and actor in The Laramie Project. <br />The major portion of the meeting was occupied by a general discussion of the Laramie <br />Project, the play, and the surrounding events. Te members of the committee uniformly praised the <br />performance and the handling of the surrounding circumstances. <br />Margaret and Nancy both remarked that a job was well done by the police and all who <br />participated. And the drama group successfully sold red ribbons and made money. Rachel <br />commented how the students and actors appreciated the way the town responded and how they <br />were receiving support for the play. Charlie, Lori and Karen joined with favorable comments on <br />the entire event and the applause by the audience to the play and the performers. Chief Cormier <br />said the he had received no negative responses. <br />Rachel Vinciguerra shared the feelings of the actors and her own feelings in being called <br />upon to play several roles of characters who had diverse attitudes towards the events. <br />Following the discussion Nancy and members turned to arranging for the Arts festival <br />scheduled for May 6-8 and the proposed art contest sponsored by the committee. In lieu of a May <br />meeting it was suggested that members attend the Arts festival. <br />The minutes of the meeting of March 5 were approved after correcting the attendance. <br />There was a brief discussion of the issues raised by he members of the Korean <br />community at the last meeting. <br />Finally, Chief Cormier called to the committee's attention that there had been a situation <br />at the High School involving possible threats which required the activation of a response team <br />going through the school and controlling entry to the school.
