Reading Historical Commission Minutes <br />7 September 1999-` . <br />Attending: <br />Clay Jones A 1 <br />Virginia Adams <br />Col. Tim Biller, who is working on his Eagle Scout project, is going ahead on the <br />web site project. Ideas: mission statement, template, historical register, inventory, <br />links, meeting times, calendar, and resources. He is now approved by the Boy Scout <br />Council. <br />2. 193 High St. The owners (Andrea and Joe Ryan) want to tear out his main roof <br />and change the interior of the house. The foot print of the house would remain the <br />same, but the exterior line of the house would change. The commission will make a <br />site inspection Friday, September 10, at 5:30. <br />3. Peter Heikenbleichner came in to tell us that the town got a $50,000 matching <br />emergency preservation grant from the state to repair the senior center roof. <br />4. The Board of Selectmen is reviewing a by-law that has been brought before <br />them tonight about mansionization in Reading. <br />5. Virginia makes a motion to let the commission pay for up to three members to <br />go to a preservation conference in Worcester. Approved. <br />6. Members went through the house at 3 Avon St. The members found a very old <br />beam acting as a chimney support, dating it back to the 17th century. Article has gone <br />out to the Advocate and will go out to the Chronicle. <br />7. New owners of the house, Bob Edgett and Jackie Rand, at 379 Haverhill St. <br />have moved in. <br />8. Dave Barrett, developer, bought the barn on upper Pearl St. <br />9. Party at 51 Mill St. to celebrate the purchase of the nearby land. It is Saturday <br />Sept. 11 at 5:00. <br />10. The town needs a new name for a new street off grove street just beyond the <br />Foster-Emerson House. Virginia suggests using the name Foster. The Col. <br />suggested Foster Circle. The commission approved. <br />11. Clay took a tour of the Foster-Emerison House. It will be painted red. <br />Adjourned: 9:10.
