Reading Historical Commission Minutes
17 April 2001
Attending: Virginia Adams
Rocco Scippa; contractor
Louise Sandberg
Roberta Sullivan
CLERK
READING , MASS.
2001 MAY 10 P 42. 11
Clay Jones
Sharlene Santo
Mark Cardono
Call to order: 7:38
1. Mr. Scippa presented his plans for the property at 1375 Main St. He felt the
house should be in the front with the other units behind it. He also thought he might
buy the house next door. Virginia and Roberta suggested their own ideas. She felt
the best alternative would be to leave the house intact, on site. Mr. Scippa is in
agreement. Virginia presented two schematics configuring the original house with the
total of 12 units in two separate ways. Mr. Scippa suggested a meeting with
commission members, Denise Moynahan, and his engineer in the near future to go
over the plans. Most likely the meeting will include Virginia and Roberta during the
day. The suggestion was made that one of the units could be made to look like the
old barn in the 1854 map picture. Clay also commented that we need to keep the
front door, a pillared open porch, the two long windows that have been removed
should be replaced, keep the fenestration, no dormer on the roof and keep the color
as white.
2. Minutes for January 23, March 8, March 19, February 6, and April 8 approved
as amended.
3. The judge lifted the injunction on the demolition of the Old Police Station and
the building is already down. Virginia saved a few pieces.
4. We are still planning a preservation day. Peter O'Shea is expected to speak
and we want to give out some preservation awards.
5. Adjourned 9:30 Approved as amended 5-1-01
