Reading Historical Commission <br />Special Meeting Minutes <br />8/21/01 <br />RECEIVE <br />TOWN CLERK <br />REAOI,O, MASS. <br />Attending: Louise Sandberg 1002 AUG 1 6 P 0: 34 <br />Judith Mitchell <br />Virginia Adams <br />Clay Jones <br />Wilbar Hoxie <br />Patrick Keohane <br />Mark Cardono <br />Sharlene Santo <br />Call to order: 7:35 <br />Permit applications for demolition: 159 Wakefield St.: Owners, Dianne and John <br />Meyers want to demolish their Greek Revival house. It is on the local inventory. <br />Virginia made a motion to make an initial determination of positive that the structure <br />be preferably preserved. Approved 4-0-0 <br />Pierce Organ factory: A demolition permit application designating Gerard E. Welch, <br />Inc., as owner of 10 Pierce St. was reviewed. The property at 10 Pierce St. is on both the <br />local inventory and the National Register of Historic Places. Virginia made a motion to <br />make an initial determination of positive that the structure be preferably preserved <br />Approved 40-0 <br />Public hearing will be Tuesday, September 11. <br />Patrick Keohane attended our meeting. He is the new owner of the Station House <br />restaurant. He now has the deed restrictions (as does the building inspector). He says <br />he needs to paint the building very soon, before the cold weather. He wants to open a <br />restaurant with an Irish theme. Mr. Keohane would like to change the color. Virginia <br />read out other colors that B&M had used on their depots. Clay suggested a paint <br />expert to evaluate what was the early paint scheme. Virginia brought up a piece of the <br />gingerbread that was stored in the archives. Two members will help Mr. Keohane <br />decide on colors (Virginia and Louise). <br />1375 Main St. RHA does not want it. The owner of the Pearl St. barn does not want it. <br />The commission will continue to pursue finding someone who would be willing to <br />move the house to a new location. Clay suggested writing an article for the paper to <br />find an interested individual who would want to move the house. <br />107 Grove St.: The house was built in 1780 and they are willing to let us visit. <br />Louise sent along a copy of the minutes from the Reading Female Anti-Slavery Society <br />to a researcher at St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH. <br />Community Preservation Act is meeting Thursday. <br />Approved as amended 10/ 2/ 01 LS <br />Adjourn: 8:45 <br />
