i1 <br />HASS. <br />_ Board of Health Meeting P 3° 31 <br />U -y <br />Minutes <br />January 10, 2002 <br />The meeting was called to=order at 6:04 P.M. Reading Town Hall, Berger Room, and 16 <br />Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts James J. Nugent, Jr., Colleen Henessey - <br />Seferian, Barbara Meade and staff liaison Jane Fiore, Health Services Administrator were <br />present. <br />The minutes of the December 13, 2001 were read and accepted. 3:0:0. <br />Next order of business: <br />• Chairman requested change in agenda to accommodate representatives from the high <br />school, Principal Frank Orlando and Marc Alterio. <br />• Presentation from schools regarding Tobacco use within Reading Memorial High <br />School. Marc Alterio presented packets to each BOH member containing medical <br />issues, legal issues ethical issues and proposed anti-smoking regulation. The <br />Discussion regarding the proposal included Ruth Brophy Tobacco Control Director. <br />The proposal guidelines were accepted by the Board and will be taken under <br />advisement. The BOH has requested they Administrator write an amendment to the <br />BOH regulation Section 16 regarding smoke free high school complete with punitive <br />measures. The board has agreed to send a letter to the principal via the Health <br />Administrator expressing their general support of the proposal. The vote on the <br />specific amendment will take place at the February 7, 2002 Board of Health meeting. <br />RMHS proposal attached to minutes. <br />• Fees for Sealer of Weights and Measure tabled until February 7, 2002 meeting <br />• The information on the draft plan for the upper Ipswich River Water Shed. The <br />discussion dealt with the use of the surrounding towns and the draw on the river. The <br />primary goal is cooperation by surrounding towns to minimize the use of the river <br />during the dry season. <br />• Beaver Dam report - seven Beavers have been trapped and removed from the Track <br />Road pond area. The dams have been breached and the conduit has been cleaned by <br />the Reading Department of Public Works. Emergency permits have been signed and <br />filed. <br />+ Flu vaccine 100 doses have been returned to the vaccine depot in Tewksbury. <br />• Administrative update : <br />• Two tanning establishments have requested applications for operation <br />+ Christy's has changed ownership - interviewed new owner. <br />
