Absent: Ray Cabot <br />Dottye Foxon called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. <br />• The minutes of April's meeting were approved (motion by John O'Neill, second by <br />Betty Cronin). <br />• Pamela reviewed the Financial Re oDi: Dick Anderson inquired about how the tax <br />program works; Pamela responded that to this point, Marie (the social worker) has <br />been handling it. The report was accepted, motion by Gay Williams, second by <br />John O'Neill. <br />Highlights of the Administrator's Report for April were reviewed. <br />• The kick-off for Adopt an Island was held at the Center.. The Garden Club has <br />been abtg to enlist several people to adapt garden areas around the Senior. <br />Center this year. <br />• Pamela gave a tour to the social worker and several residents from Longwood <br />Place - they were pleased to be introduced to the facility and to learn about its <br />offerings. <br />• The April 25 h event featuring the State Secretary of Elder Affairs and Rep. Brad <br />Jones was well attended. <br />• Regarding the Computer Room, Pamela will ask Sue (coordinator of volunteers) to <br />.find out if there will be high school mentors available during the summer. <br />• Relative to MVES, Dick Anderson reported on the volunteer event that had been <br />held recently, and again reminded us of the cut ($8M) in home health care for the <br />new year. <br />• In other business we discussed officer positions for the Board, giving thought to the <br />appropriate role for the Board, identifying ways in which to make a more effective <br />agenda, and the possibility of setting up sub-committees to address specific areas <br />of concern. Pamela told us that the Young Women's League of Reading had made <br />a $350 donation to Elder services, with which a boom box and karaoke machine will <br />be purchased; Gay will write a thank you note. John O'Neill suggested publishing a <br />"wish list" of needed or desired items in the newsletter and/or local newspapers. <br />Dottye, John and Dick have -indicated a willingness to work as a sub-committee <br />regarding the Salem State needs assessment. <br />• The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m. <br />• Pamela was excused and we then spent time compiling evaluation comments for <br />her annual review with the Town Manager. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />- Cray walic~ <br />Gay Williams, Sec'y <br />
