m=G, i,5. <br />February 9, 2004 2005 JUN I -I D 3 <br />Council on Aging Meeting at the Reading.Senior Center <br />49 Pleasant Street <br />Reading, MA 01867 <br />Present: Dick Anderson, Betty Cronin, Edwina Kasper, Kristin Loring Kinsella, Caro] <br />Patterson, Barbara Powers, and Pamela Brown (Administrator). Absent: Dottye Foxon, <br />Ruth Goldberg. <br />Betty Cronin called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. <br />• The minutes of the January 15th meeting were approved - motion to accept <br />Dick Anderson, seconded by Edwina and carried. <br />• Betty Cronin will be Acting Chairperson. <br />• Pamela read Gay Williams' resignation letter and John O'Neill's E-Mail <br />Resigning from the Board. <br />• The Board now needs two new members. <br />• The Senior Center was closed on January 23 because of a power outage. <br />• The Financial Report was discussed pertaining to the Burbank Fund. The <br />Board agreed to spend the yearly interest- about $14,000.00. Discussed <br />various ways to use this money such as - Bingo Board that mounts on the wall <br />and will be helpful to the hard of hearing - help fund volunteer function, <br />sound system for TV room - portable mike - Dick suggested a visit to other <br />COA to see what they have. <br />• Open House refreshments were approved up to $50 - Motion - Carol - <br />seconded by Dick. <br />• Pleasantries will be mailed in March - may have to go to additional page <br />which will increase cost up to $200.00. Motion made to fund by Dick, <br />seconded by Barbara <br />• Coolidge Middle School and Reading Elder/Human Services are having an <br />intergenerational book discussion program on April I". This may lead an on <br />going program. The Coordinator of Volunteers is participating in this <br />program. <br />• Pamela met with Dan O'Leary, Mystic Valley Elder Services, Sandy Trainor, <br />Executive Director of Community Parish Nursing, Peter Hechenbleikner, <br />Town Manager, Beth Klepeis, Town Treasurer/Tax Collector, and to discuss <br />the various services provided to Reading seniors and what if any areas <br />overlap. The Visiting Nurse Association of Easter Massachusetts was, were <br />unable to send a representative to this meeting. <br />• The Fix-It. Shop equipment was donated to the Facilities Department and the <br />room is now empty. <br />• Pamela attended a Lions Club meeting where they discussed paying for the <br />railing and installation. The cost is $3,080.00. Currently Elder/Human <br />Services has $1350.00 in donations to put towards the railing. The Reading <br />Lions Club has agreed to host a lasagna dinner at the Senior Center in May. <br />This event will be free to our seniors. <br />
