RECEIVED <br />TOP CLERK <br />Council on Aging Board Meeting READING, MASS. <br />Monday, May 12, 2008 <br />Reading Senior Center-Game Room OFD 2b P 3: 31 <br />Present:Carol Patterson, Carole Scrima, Stacey Bertocchi, Margaret Havey, Sally Hoyt, Edwina <br />Kasper, Steve Oston, Edwina Kasper, Dawn Folopoulos (staff) <br />Excused absence: Barbara Powers, Marguerite Bosnian, Charlie McDonald (associate member) <br />6:32 Meeting called to order. <br />Minutes approved and accepted for March 10, 2008. <br />Administrator's Report approved and accepted. <br />e3 The volunteer recognition reception was well attended. The Burbank Trust funded the <br />entertainment. <br />C!3 Steve commented on the administrator's report. He has notice the number of meals <br />served is continuing to increase. Dawn noted that the numbers tend to fluctuate and a <br />decrease of 5-6 people over a month is not a need for concern. Also Sharon has been <br />doing some creative programming at lunch time like "lunch and trivia? and "Are you <br />smarter than a 5t' grader?" She has also invited RMLD will come out at lunchtime and <br />give out free light bulbs and provide energy saving information. <br />Financial Report approved and accepted. <br />Dawn presented a memo to the COA requesting the Burbank Trust help partial fund an audio <br />system for the Senior Center in the amount $2,638.76. The total cost of the new system is <br />$4,904.00. The balance of $2,597.82 will be funded from the State Formula Grant. After <br />discussion of various estimates Dawn received and a breakdown of cost Ruth made a motion that <br />COA grant partial fund the system from the Burbank Trust in the amount of $2,638.76. Margaret <br />2'd the motion. <br />Old Business <br />Dawn gave an update about the Presenter's Policy Committee. The committee decided it would <br />optimal to have a non-profit organization do presentation. Dawn presented a sample of the form <br />presenters will have to sign in agreement with the terms stated. As of June 1, 2008 the senior <br />center will not have any preseatnions by for-profits agencies regarding real estate, legal or <br />financial services. Steve requested that we revisit this in a year from now to evaluate how this <br />has affected the senior center's ability to provide diversified programming. <br />Friends and Family Day - we still need one volunteer for the afternoon. <br />Update - Discount booklet. Dawn gave Steve the list of businesses from the IT dept. he <br />requested. They will work together on who will get the responses back from these businesses. <br />
