Time <br />suggested was 5:30. <br />3-8-06 Voted Mission Document with Peter's recommendations: <br />Cities for Climate Protection Committee <br />Reading Massachusetts <br />Mission Statement <br />The Advisory Committee on the "Cities for Climate Protection Program" is an <br />official town advisory committee, comprised of concerned citizen volunteers <br />seeking to achieve environmental, economic and societal sustainability by <br />raising public awareness and influencing the community, including its <br />government, to reduce detrimental environmental impacts and energy <br />expenditures. <br />Specific Goals <br />Reduce Green House Gas Emissions in order to slow global warming. <br />Improve air quality to enhance public health. <br />Foster responsible stewardship of the local and global ecosystem to ensure <br />its longevity. <br />• Foster the conservation of energy sources to preserve them for future <br />generations. <br />• Reduce the energy expenses of the town, residents and businesses to <br />improve our standard of living. <br />Methods <br />• Incorporate the 5 milestones of ICLEI's (International Council for Local <br />Environmental Initiatives) Cities for Climate Protection Program to organize <br />and formalize our efforts. <br />• Encourage the use of sustainable energy sources and modes of <br />transportation. <br />• Educate our citizenry with a strong public awareness campaign that <br />involves the schools, the media, and various public forums. <br />. Work with Town Selectmen, the CPDC and other government bodies in concert <br />with the town's Master Plan relative to sustainable development. <br />Partner with local businesses to increase the committee's effectiveness <br />and encourage participation. <br />• Reach out to neighboring communities to assist them to establish similar <br />3/10/06 <br />
