Reading Advisory Committee on Cities for Climate Protection Program
Committee Notes for April 19, 2006
Present were Stephanie Anderberg, Michele Benson, Ron Daddario, Gina Snyder, and Ray Porter.
Special meeting for Instructional Motion for Town Meeting for April 24.
See document with Peter Hechenbleikner's comments for instructional motion. The committee reviewed the
proposal, discussed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program of the United
States Green Building Council and how best to approach the instructional motion.
The Mass building code and BOCA are the basic standards that construction must meet, we are asking
developers/renovators/remodlers to be reminded that Reading is looking to the future and is looking for
going beyond the minimum standards because it is economical to do so, saving money in the long term, and
it will be. necessary for everyone to pitch in to meet our sustainability targets. We are looking to have Town
Meeting and town committees encourage and if possible, require, projects to use green building practices
and renewable energy to the maximum extent feasible.
