September 10, 2008 Reading Advisory Committee on Cities for Climate Protection Program
Committee Notes for September 10, 2008. 7PM (Next Meeting - Sep. 24`x' at Town Hall)
Committee Mtg present were Ron D'Addario, Gina Snyder, Tracy Sopchak, Joan Boegel, Bing Xia, David Williams,
Sophie Gellot & Stephanie Anderberg.
Meeting opening - Acting Chair Gina Snyder opened the meeting.
Minutes - A request was made to amend the August 27 meeting minutes to end with anew line:
"Immediately after this meeting, several committee members attended the Reading Municipal Light Board
meeting where discussion included the energy efficiency position, which was recommended in our Action Plan."
The minutes, as amended were approved.
Action Plan items updates - Tracy prepared a summary of the shuttle plan for Peter to use as a quick
update to the Board of Selectmen. .
On the no-idle program, the subcommittee met with Pat & Mary at the school department. The signage has come
in and DPW could use our help to determine where to install them. Committee members divided up the locations
to visit and mark for installation suggestions. We also have a press release that has been edited and approved by
Pat, for us to release. The pledges are ready to go to the schools. We may need to work with principals to move
this along. Pat & Mary also mentioned an upcoming "resources committee" which would include teachers.
Tracy expects to make progress on the RCTV program in the next several weeks. She will send an email to the
group when she has more information on the RCTV training date/time. She will also set up a subcommittee
meeting on storyboarding with John Surrette.
The committee discussed upcoming newspaper article topics/sequence. There are several topic ideas and some
new or returning authors ready to write.
For the next meeting, Tracy will bring a review of what Action Items are assigned to each committee member.
There is a MassRecycle tour of Covanta on Sept 17 at 10 am in Haverhill. David will forward the info email. On
the 18th, there is a northeast municipal recycling committee meeting in Wilmington; an all day meeting on a
variety of recycling-related topics. Also, Sudbury has a twice-annual Styrofoam recycling dropof. . We might be
able to do this in Reading, but there are logistical issues with bundling the collected items and shipping them tp
Framingham. The benefit of recycling might be outweighed by the transportation.
Upcoming Meetings - Potluck at Ron's On Saturday October 4 from 4 to 7.
Home Depot Fair - Home Depot asked our committee to have an info table at their event on the 27th.
Several committee members may be available to staff a table.
Other Business - There was a brief talk about Story Walk possibilities.
