January 14, 2009Reading Advisory Committee on Cities for Climate Protection Program
Committee Notes for January 14, 2009. 7PM (Next Meeting - Jan. 28 at Town Hall)
Present were Michele Benson, Gina Snyder, Ron D'Addario, Joan Boegel, Bing Xia, Dave Williams, Ray Porter and
Stephanie Anderberg.
Meeting opening -Chair Michele Benson opened the meeting.
Minutes - A motion was made and approved to accept the Dec 10" meeting minutes.
RCTV show ideas - this item was tabled as Tracy could not join us. One thought was that we may want
to take some time in our first episode to explain who we are.
topic - The subcommittee met to work on a document summarizing Action Items progress to-date. Tracy
is also getting prepared for the February 22" d Selectmen's meeting presentation. Now we need to identify which
items we want to work on this year. We might also consider a second round of data collection to get some idea of
how much impact our actions may have had so far. Committee members discussed. the next round of Action Items
and self-selected which people can take the lead on which items.
topic - The committee talked about ways to get the right messages about climate protection out. Gina got
information about a "Teach-In" teleconference on climate, intended to encourage the new presidential
administration to implement some really significant climate protection measures in the first 100 days. One goal of
the Teach-In is to get people contacting their congressmen to prioritize climate protection measures.
Other - There will be a Lego robotics competition at the end of the month, where elementary school
students demonstrate their robotics projects and give presentation on this year's theme, which is climate
protection.
There was also a brief discussion of possible sources for smaller grants.
