Recreation Committee Minutes ; <br />Wednesday, February 10, 1999 <br />A It: <br />The Recreation Committee meeting came to order at 7:30 PM in the Town Hall <br />Conference Room. Committee members in attendance included Alan Beaulieu, Dennis <br />Lucyniak, Dave Bryant, Sue Cavicchi, Jack Downing and Claire Bolger. Also in <br />attendance were Associate Member Marc Nelson, Associate Member Sudie Fay and <br />Recreation Administrator Joe Connelly. <br />Mark Nelson, Dave Bryant, and Dennis Lucyniak volunteered to assist with the Easter <br />Egg Hunt on March 27 . <br />Mr. Beaulieu made a motion to approve the minutes of the Wednesday, January 13, 1999 <br />meeting, Mr. Lucyniak seconded the motion, approved 5-0-1. <br />RYB REQUEST FOR BATTING CAGE AT HUNT MEMORIAL PARK <br />Mr. Mike DiCicco of Reading Youth Baseball reviewed his organizations request for the <br />installation of a batting cage at Hunt Memorial Park. Mr. Connelly reviewed the plans <br />and hearing procedure for this project. The Committee discussed their concerns with Mr. <br />DiCicco. The Committee discussed the following issues: <br />1. Concerns of abutters <br />2. The maintenance of the facility <br />3. Whether or not the facility should be locked <br />4. The facility design <br />5. Funding for the facility <br />6. Placement of the facility in respect to conservation land <br />Committee Member Kate Kaminer entered the meeting at 7:50 PM. <br />Mr. Downing commented that it may not be legal to lock a facility on public park land. <br />Mr. Connelly explained that it may reduce the liability of individuals climbing over the <br />structure if the facility was not locked. Mr. Beaulieu made the following motion, <br />seconded by Mrs. Cavicchi, and approved 6-0-1 (Mr. Lucyniak being the one abstention). <br />Move that the Recreation Committee take under advisement the request for a <br />batting cage at Hunt Memorial Park as a recommendation for a viable solution to <br />the existing field shortage dilemma, for both the Town and Reading Youth <br />Baseball. A Public Hearing should be scheduled for March 3, 1999 at 7:30 PM to <br />discuss this matter in greater detail. <br />Mr. DiCicco exited the meeting at 8 PM. <br />Committee Member Chris Campbell entered the meeting at 8:02 PM <br />
