Town of Reading <br />16 Lowell Street <br />Reading, MA 01867-2685 <br />FAX: (781) 942-9071 <br />RECREATION DIVISION: (781) 942-9075 <br />RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES <br />11/14/01 MEETING <br />In Attendance - Alan Beaulieu, Susan Fay, Mark Hyson, Claire Bolger, Dave Bryant, Mary Ellen Stolecki, <br />Lorraine Salter. <br />Alan Beaulieu started the meeting at 7:09 p.m. <br />Everyone read through the October 10, 2001 minutes. There was a brief discussion on the minutes. Claire <br />Bolger made a motion to accept the October 10, 2001 minutes. Susan Fay seconded the motion. The vote <br />passed 5 - 0, to accept the October 10, 2001 minutes. <br />Catherine Kammer came in to the meeting at 7:25 PM. Jack Downing came in to the meeting at 7:26 PM. <br />Sue Cavicchi came in to the meeting at 8:15 PM <br />Mark Hyson spoke on the preliminary Skateboard Park meeting that was held on Monday, November 5, <br />2001. Mark stated that in attendance at the Nov. 5 meeting was Peter Hechenbleikner, Alan Beaulieu, Taylor <br />and Kerry Bramhall, Pat Iapicca, and himself. Mark stated that we are in the very infancy stages of this <br />venture. At the conclusion of the meeting the Bramhall's were going to find out more information on the <br />local communities that have skateboard parks. They were going to maybe visit some locations and check out <br />the size and locations that these parks are located with respect to their towns. The Bramhall's were also <br />going to try to get a letter from Mr. Dickinson on an agreement to fund the project. The Bramhall's will be <br />coming in to either the December or January Recreation Committee Meeting to report to the Recreation <br />Committee on their findings. <br />Mark Hyson brought up the issue of the possibility of shrubs being replanted at the Pacino Memorial in <br />Washington Park. The Recreation Committee felt that since there was damage to the bushes that maybe a <br />tree from the Town's Nursery should be planted instead. It was also discussed about the possibility of <br />moving the Memorial rock back to the fence, about 20 feet back. Mark Hyson stated he will speak to Phil <br />Pacino before anything is finalized. <br />Mark Hyson spoke on the Reading Youth Lacrosse Clinics and stated that he had spoken with Charles Hardy <br />and Mr. Hardy stated that the November 11 clinic was very successful. Mr. Hardy stated that over 125 kids <br />attended the clinic. Dave Bryant stated that he attended the clinic on November 11 and that there were about <br />200 kids present when he was there. The next scheduled clinic will be on November 18, 2001. Mark Hyson <br />stated that if Reading Youth Lacrosse is having this much interest, than it may be a possible problem for field <br />usage in the spring. The committee suggested to Mark to start looking at the preliminary field practice <br />schedule that was used last spring for all the youth sports. The committee stated to maybe look at Sturges <br />Park for practices for Lacrosse for the spring. <br />
