Committee Member, Mary Ann Kozlowski, School Committee Rep., John Feudo, Recreation <br />Administrator <br />Guest: Beth Claroni <br />N. Swain called the meeting to order at 7:06 PM <br />The Rec. Committee was asked to review the minutes from the January 11th meeting. F. Driscoll <br />asked that it be notated in the January minutes that J. Feudo has opted off the Extended Learning <br />Research Committee due other time commitments at home. <br />B. Winne made a motion to accept the minutes from the January 1 Ith Recreation Committee <br />meeting. K. Kaminer seconded the motion. The motion passed in favor of acceptance of the <br />minutes 5-0-0. <br />R. Shaffer entered the meetinc at 7:12 PM. <br />N. Swain gave the Committee an update regarding the substance abuse initiative headed up by the <br />Board of Selectmen and School Committee. The group is currently working on establishing a <br />mission statement. Liz Silva from the Winchester Substance Abuse Coalition presented to the <br />group and shared some ideas of how the process is done in Winchester. The Winchester Substance <br />Abuse Coalition is grant funded and is a closed door meeting process to protect sensitive situations. <br />WSAC has made progress over the past years existence implementing programs such as parent <br />supervised drop offs for HS dances among others. <br />The Reading Substance Abuse Initiative will continue to investigate grant opportunities and <br />evaluate who would be potential candidates to serve as members of the coalition. <br />A discussion ensued amongst the members of the Rec. Committee. F. Driscoll felt that the <br />education of parents is the key component to success. K. Kaminer felt it was important to give <br />parents an avenue to learn and be educated on what happens with their children. <br />Budget: <br />J. Feudo handed out a detailed cost accounting assessment of the FY06 budget. B. Winne <br />recommended that the budget be looked at the end of each season (or three times a year). The <br />Recreation Administrator will pick three dates to consistently update the budget each year. <br />
