f Minutes of the Board of Selectmen Meeting February 28, 1989 The meeting convened at 7: 35 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, 6 Lowell Street, Reading, MA. Present were Chairman Nigro, Vice-Chairman Graham, Secretary Ziegler, Selectmen Landers and Town Manager Peter I. Hechenbleikner. Residents present were Susan A. Horn, William C. Brown, Helen Shabarech, Bill Coldewey, Alan Foulds, Bobbie Botticelli, Carol Beckwith, Ed Palmer, Linda Goodemote, Paul J. Sweeney, George V. Hines , Richard Fotino, Susan Flannery, Tony Fletcher, Nancy D'Amico, Nancy & Ted Smethurst, Paul Devlin, Liz Greene, Jerry Fiore, Charles Catafalo, Ruth Cogan, Bill Redford, and Don Allen. On motion by Ziegler seconded by Graham the Graham seconded by Zeigler the Board approved the February 13, 1989 minutes by vote of 3-0-0. Public Comment Bill Brown suggested to the Board that the Police Department should start ticketing people who park on the sidewalks in the Town. Mr. Brown suggested $35. 00 per ticket. Liaison Reports Mr. Graham would like some guidelines from Tony Fletcher for the - Selectmen's meeting on March 14th with regard to water conserva- tion measures that the Town will want to begin to enforce. The Board of Selectmen interviewed Nathan White and Brian :Corbett for the Ad Hoc Solid Waste Committee. The Board will make their appointments on the 14th of March when all the candidates have been interviewed. Richard Cefalo was not able to be present. Richard Fotino was interviewed for the Ad Hoc Wading Pool Com- mittee. The Board will make their appointments on the 14th of March when all the candidates have been interviewed. William Hughes and John Pacino were not able to be present. Roberta Botticelli, Nancy Burns, Susan Flannery, Alan Foulds, Susan Horn, and Helen Shabarekh were interviewed by the Board of Selectmen and the Moderator for the 350th Anniversary Committee. Raymond Coture withdrew his application for this committee. The Board will make their appointments on the 14th of March when all the candidates have been interviewed. Rheta McKinley and Rita Shaw were not able to be present. Town Hall Renovations - Tony Fletcher was present to discuss the "Fletcher Plan" for renovation of the Town Hall complex. The price tag for this project is $1.5 million. Mr. Fletcher in- formed the Selectmen itii) is more than a space problem, more than a people problem, it is a health problem. There is radon in the basement of the former library and no air changes in the Town "---- Hall. There is a problem with the electricity, and the heating system. It would address the handicapped accessibility through an elevator contained in a single staircase tower constructed to the rear of the present Town Hall. Nils Nordberg Chairman of
