f <br /> Minutes of the Board of Selectmen Meeting <br /> February 28, 1989 <br /> The meeting convened at 7: 35 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting <br /> Room, 6 Lowell Street, Reading, MA. Present were Chairman Nigro, <br /> Vice-Chairman Graham, Secretary Ziegler, Selectmen Landers and <br /> Town Manager Peter I. Hechenbleikner. Residents present were <br /> Susan A. Horn, William C. Brown, Helen Shabarech, Bill Coldewey, <br /> Alan Foulds, Bobbie Botticelli, Carol Beckwith, Ed Palmer, Linda <br /> Goodemote, Paul J. Sweeney, George V. Hines , Richard Fotino, <br /> Susan Flannery, Tony Fletcher, Nancy D'Amico, Nancy & Ted <br /> Smethurst, Paul Devlin, Liz Greene, Jerry Fiore, Charles <br /> Catafalo, Ruth Cogan, Bill Redford, and Don Allen. <br /> On motion by Ziegler seconded by Graham the Graham seconded by <br /> Zeigler the Board approved the February 13, 1989 minutes by vote <br /> of 3-0-0. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Bill Brown suggested to the Board that the Police Department <br /> should start ticketing people who park on the sidewalks in the <br /> Town. Mr. Brown suggested $35. 00 per ticket. <br /> Liaison Reports <br /> Mr. Graham would like some guidelines from Tony Fletcher for the <br /> - Selectmen's meeting on March 14th with regard to water conserva- <br /> tion measures that the Town will want to begin to enforce. <br /> The Board of Selectmen interviewed Nathan White and Brian :Corbett <br /> for the Ad Hoc Solid Waste Committee. The Board will make their <br /> appointments on the 14th of March when all the candidates have <br /> been interviewed. Richard Cefalo was not able to be present. <br /> Richard Fotino was interviewed for the Ad Hoc Wading Pool Com- <br /> mittee. The Board will make their appointments on the 14th of <br /> March when all the candidates have been interviewed. William <br /> Hughes and John Pacino were not able to be present. <br /> Roberta Botticelli, Nancy Burns, Susan Flannery, Alan Foulds, <br /> Susan Horn, and Helen Shabarekh were interviewed by the Board of <br /> Selectmen and the Moderator for the 350th Anniversary Committee. <br /> Raymond Coture withdrew his application for this committee. The <br /> Board will make their appointments on the 14th of March when all <br /> the candidates have been interviewed. Rheta McKinley and Rita <br /> Shaw were not able to be present. <br /> Town Hall Renovations - Tony Fletcher was present to discuss the <br /> "Fletcher Plan" for renovation of the Town Hall complex. The <br /> price tag for this project is $1.5 million. Mr. Fletcher in- <br /> formed the Selectmen itii) is more than a space problem, more than <br /> a people problem, it is a health problem. There is radon in the <br /> basement of the former library and no air changes in the Town <br /> "---- Hall. There is a problem with the electricity, and the heating <br /> system. It would address the handicapped accessibility through <br /> an elevator contained in a single staircase tower constructed to <br /> the rear of the present Town Hall.
