MA. o� <br />2021 JAN 19 AM 10: 35 <br />�` <br />Town Forest Committee <br />Date: 2021-10-19 Time: 7 PM <br />Building: Location: <br />Address: <br />Purpose: Town Forest Management Session: <br />Attendees: Members - Present: <br />Thomas Gardiner, Kurt Habel, Jeff Lamson, Susan Bowe, Brian Scouter, Bill <br />Sullivan <br />Members - Not Present: <br />Nancy Docktor <br />Others Present: <br />Jane Kinsella DPW; Tim Kirwan, Bruce MacKenzie, Martha Moore ConCom <br />Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Bill Sullivan <br />Topics of Discussion: <br />Meeting was held by video conference due to the COVID pandemic. <br />• Pine Tree Die -Off <br />o DPW to submit the Request for Determination of Applicability with the <br />approved Forest Cutting Plan before the 11/10/21 ConCom meeting. <br />o DPW will request $50,000 for the Phase 2 cutting and Phil Benjamin's <br />charges at November Town Meeting <br />o DCR awarded a grant of $10,000 for the Phase 2 cutting. <br />o Conduct Phase 2 tree removal in January or February to avoid impact on <br />salamanders and other wildlife <br />• 90th Anniversary Celebration held on 9/25/2021 was a great success. Thank you <br />to Nancy Docktor and Kurt Habel for organizing this event. <br />• Discussed Buckthorn removal. Best to remove before berries appear in July. Can <br />easily pull small plants. Plants larger than 1" in diameter are often cut and an <br />herbicide is painted on to kill the roots, but herbicides are prohibited on Town <br />property. <br />• Town Meeting to vote on the proposed purchase of one or all five of the <br />Meadowbrook GC lots. TFC will have an opportunity to speak at TM in favor of <br />purchasing the five lots. Discussed the possibility of using Lot 5 for 18 parking <br />spaces and access to the TF. <br />• There were too many cars for the 10/3/21 middle school cross country event. <br />There was not sufficient access for emergency vehicles. A parking plan will be <br />needed for the event next year. <br />• Next Meeting: scheduled for 11/16/21 at 7:00 pm <br />Page 1 1 <br />
