Town of Reading RECEIVED �� rn Meeting Minutes TOWN CLERK= a� READING, MA. 3� i �� Board - Committee - Commission - Council: 2022 .IAN 19 AM 10: 35 Town Forest Committee Date: 2021-09-21 Time: 7 PM Building: Location: Address: Purpose: Town Forest Management Session: Attendees: Members - Present: Thomas Gardiner, Nancy Docktor, Kurt Habel, Jeff Lamson, Susan Bowe, Brian Scouten, Bill Sullivan Members - Not Present: Others Present: Jane Kinsella and Chris Cale, DPW; Phil Benjamin, Tim Kirwan and Adam Clark Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Bill Sullivan Topics of Discussion: Meeting was held by video conference due to the COVID pandemic. • Pine Tree Die -Off o Certified Forester Phil Benjamin will mark dead trees for removal under the Phase 2 cutting in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 6 (approx. 5 acres) o DPW to prepare the Request for Determination of Applicability and bid document. Bid tree removal in October. o Seek funding at November Town Meeting o Conduct Phase 2 tree removal in January or February to avoid impact on salamanders and other wildlife o Will need ConCom approval. Set up a site walk with them. • 90th Anniversary Celebration set for 9/25/2021 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. o Speakers are confirmed including topics: raptors, snakes & native plants o Buckthorn pulling will be done all day especially in the Phase 1 pilot area o State Sen. Jason Lewis and Select Board Chair Karen Herrick will speak • The on-line group use application process for the TF is working very well. • The porta-john at Scrub Oak has not been removed yet. • A youth has been seen riding an electric bike in the TF despite the prohibition of motorized vehicles. • Town is considering the purchase of 5 lots from Meadowbrook GC. Consideration to use one for TF access and parking. Also considering the old Water Treatment Plant field for this. • Approved minutes to 8/17/21 TFC meeting • Next Meeting: scheduled for 10/19/21 at 7:00 pm Page 1 1
