Regular Session 2 May 21 2001 <br /> INTRODUCTION OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE <br /> Dr. Harutunian introduced new student representative Laura Hardin. <br /> SUPERINTENDENT/LIAISON REPORT <br /> Vice Chair Dahl stated that the Coolidge Middle School Science Olympiad Team <br /> competed in the national competition last weekend and placed 7th in the country. <br /> BILLS PAYROLL <br /> There are no bills and payroll. <br /> CITIZENS INPUT <br /> There was no citizen input. <br /> CURRICULUM PRESENTATION (OUT OF ORDER) <br /> Mr. Richards stated that the Curriculum Leadership was here this evening to give a <br /> curriculum update to the Committee. <br /> English Language Arts <br /> Ms. patella, Ms. Barnes, Ms. DiNapoli and Ms. Kwiatek updated the Committee on the <br /> English Language Arts Curriculum K-5 and asked for questions from the Committee. <br /> Mr. Russo stated that over the last 10 years there has been controversy regarding whole <br /> language versus phonics. He asked Ms. Banios to describe the new curriculum. <br /> Ms. Banios stated that the curriculum is a balanced approach to literacy and included <br /> decoding, comprehension and syntax. <br /> Mr. Russo asked if the program meets the Massachusetts Frameworks. <br /> Ms. Banios advised that program does meet the frameworks. <br />
