READING SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> Reading,Massachusetts CLERK <br /> MASS. <br /> EXECUTIVE SESION Octo 2 <br /> P 12 11 <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Chair Twomey called the meeting to order in the Superintendent's Office. Present were <br /> School Committee Members Cavicchi,Dahl, Griset, Keigley,Russo and Twomey. Also <br /> present were Superintendent Hamtunian, Associate Superintendent Richards and Town <br /> Manager Hechenbleikner. <br /> Teachers' Negotiations <br /> Chair Twomey stated that the School Committee subcommittee is in favor of the <br /> proposed settlement agreement between the Reading School Committee and the Reading <br /> Teachers'Association. <br /> Mr. Twomey stated his concern that the one-time only off base payment of$300 not be <br /> included in the oontmct but be in a side letter. <br /> Dr. Hamtunian stated that both he and Vice-Chair Griset had spoken to counsel and <br /> counsel believed the way it is written in the settlement memorandum is the appropriate <br /> set up. <br /> �r Mr.Russo moved to approve the agreeMent between the Reading Teachers' <br /> Association and the School Committee pending successful ratification by the <br /> Readine Teachers'Association. Mr.Keiglev seconded the motion. The vote was 7-0 <br /> Ms. Cavicchi Mr.Dahl,Mr. Griset Mr.Hechenblefter, Mr. Keiplev,Mr. Russo <br /> and Mr.Twomey. <br /> Dr. Hamtunian asked the Committee for authorization to bargain with the other unions <br /> and offer the unions a maximum of 2.5% to settle. <br /> Ms. Cavicchi moved to offer the nurses educational assistants secretaries and <br /> clerical workers cafeteria workers up to 2.5% followed by successful ratification b <br /> each group. Mr. Griset seconded the motion The vote was 6-0-1 Ms Cavicchi Mr. <br /> Dahl,Mr. Griset Mr. Keigley Mr.Russo and Mr.Twomey voted Yes Mr. <br /> Hechenbleikner abstained. <br /> Mr. Hechenbleikner stated the reason he abstained was that he does not object to doing <br /> better than 2%increases if labor market shows it is warranted but he did not believe <br /> market shows that for these groups. <br />
