Ms. Burns informed
the group that they have had no client requests for the Respite Care Program and currently
have only one person enrolled in it. Also, in the past few years, there had been no need for
it at all. Ms. Klepeis added that this program had been an issue ever since it was created.
Considering that there was no need and the history of this program Ms. Klepeis made the
following motion:
On a motion by Mr. Klepeis seconded by Mr. Daly moved to suggest to the Trust Fund
Commissioners to eliminate the Respite Care Program by a vote of 3-0
Ms. Klepeis asked what some of the most common requests were. Ms. Burns mentioned that
the highest demand currently was geared toward adult daycare, which was very expensive,
and transportation to treatment facilities added another level of expense. Some of the
requests that they regularly receive were for transportation for dialysis or for Alzheimer.
These treatments require the patient to visit a center 3-4 times a week. Ms. Valle
mentioned that we have a lot of clients on dialysis and transportation for them is the major
pain point. In most cases the family member helps with transportation; however, this is an
ongoing treatment, and it gets challenging to manage and accommodate.
Page I 1
