(GS), Market Basket (BC), Stop and Shop (BC) Library (BC).
REI put it on their bulletin board already (CK).
Already at YMCA (GS) but need to check that they didn't take it down.
Churches: Gretchen will do UU; David will do congregational; question on newsletters for
other churches (GS to look for email addresses, esp. two big ones).
Climate Committee: Gretchen educational hand outs. EPA didn't send hand outs.
Gina talk to librarian. Variety of bags to show. T-Shirt bag. Crocheted bag. David will check
what other towns are doing, not just for the fair.
Students? LAS and GS to update questionnaire for 6th grade Parker students and GS
to send reminder to other teachers who were already emailed.
Plastic bag ban next steps - Earth Day and Reading Friends and Family Day.
David was going to talk to the town about getting some bags. An email with
concerns was sent to town and forwarded to committee. As a start, legal requirements have
been met in that Reading posted in paper. Would stores do outreach? Probably not: E.g.,
CVS in Concord - there are no signs, but when you get to the counter, they ask if you want
paper or to purchase a bag. It's up to businesses how they deal with it. Have sent email to
town to ask for meeting to coordinate, RCAC will be doing outreach.
Noted that most grocers have paper already. Also MB and S&S already have bag bans in
some of the towns they are in; both have heavier plastic bag options at their registers that
they are selling.
Bike Swap - May 4-5;\
Ray and some of the bike club guys will be helping, clean up is Friday, exchanges on
Saturday. Any not picked up go to an organization that helps people in need.
The meeting adjourned at 8:28 pm
Next meeting 4-11-2018 at 7:00 pm
Page 1 2
