Department of Conservation & Recreation sponsors Town Forest <br /> Conferences. Discussed the feasibility of Reading hosting this conference to <br /> celebrate the 90'^ anniversary of the TF in 2020. The representatives of Mass. <br /> C&R spoke about the history and purpose of the TF Conferences. The goal is for <br /> towns to network with each other to discuss management of their forests. <br /> • To identify funding sources for improvements <br /> • Invasive plant management <br /> • Forest health management including selective thinning <br /> • The TF Conferences are supported but not directed by DCR <br /> • Reading would need to submit a timeline and proposed cost to DCR <br /> • Would need and agreement between Reading and DCR <br /> • The goal is to have around 100 people attend <br /> • DCR offers continuing education credits for foresters to attend <br /> • Run in coordination with Trails Committee and Conservation Commission <br /> to give Reading residents an appreciation of the TF? <br /> 2. Mass. DCR has information on their website about information on forest thinning <br /> that is being considered under a pilot program to improve the health of the TF. <br /> 3. Senior Girl Scout Hannah Korwan proposed a birdhouse project for the TF as <br /> well as preparing a pamphlet on why birds are important to the TF.
