TOWN OF READING <br /> i, BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br /> Minutes of January 7, 1985 <br /> Attendance: Paul Dustin, Vice Chair, Paul Landers,John Russell and Mary Ziegler, <br /> Selectmen and Carol for John Agnew,Executive Secretary. <br /> Firearms License: Mr. Russell moved that the Board of Selectmen award a license to <br /> sell, rent or lease firearms, shotguns and rifles and ammunition to Lawrence Henderson, <br /> doing business as the Shooter's Den, 15 High Street, Reading, Mass. Through December <br /> 31, 1985. Seconded. Vote: Unanimous. <br /> Report or the Chairman: Mr. Dustin read a letter from Lawrence Drew regarding <br /> registration of new voters for the Town Election. The intent is registration would still be <br /> available at Town Hall. Requested Mr. Drew to attend to clarify proposed motion <br /> language. Mr. Drew stated the state law required registration by precinct unless the <br /> Selectmen voted contrary. Mr. Russell moved that the Board of Selectmen dispense with <br /> the registration of voters by(in the)precinct in accordance with Chapter 51, Section 30 of <br /> the General Laws for the Town Election scheduled for March 181h. Seconded. Vote: <br /> Unanimous. <br /> Class 2 Used Car Dealers License: Applicants stated they had acquired the property <br /> from John (name). Mr. Russell moved that the Board award, subject to signing of the <br /> required tax forms, a class 2 dealer's license to Foreign Cars of Reading, Inc., 34 Salem <br /> Street,Reading, Mass., the owners being David L. Marone, President and Dennis Brown, <br /> Secretary, and David L. Marone, Treasurer. Seconded. Vote: Unanimous. <br /> Common Victualer's License: Mr. Dustin stated he heard Wes Parker's had been sold. <br /> Carol said they had contacted them and at this time there has been no sale. Mr. Dustin <br /> said by previous vote the Board would allow the Selectmen's Office to issues the license. <br /> He called attention to the letter from the Planning Board in the packet. Mr. Dustin <br /> suggested the Board those involved in the consolidation to come in for a meeting. <br /> Liaison Report: Mr. Russell said the new hires started today and it was a low fire <br /> weekend. Mr. Dustin reported there were 60 police officers reporting for duty. And the <br /> Chief has made arrangements to get the female officer into the training program. <br /> Discussed early hiring before retirements versus overtime expenses. He said he would <br /> clarify with the Police Chief Mrs. Ziegler reported that Jim(name) died last week. <br /> Carol said it was a small private service. <br /> Approval of Bills: Mr. Russell moved that the Board of Selectmen approve payment <br /> from the deductible account of$191 payable to the insurance company in the matter of <br /> the Town versus Stoneham Savings Bank. Seconded. Vote: Unanimous. <br />
