POLICY ESTABLISHING A SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> The Town of Reading has been awarded a Small Cities Grant to con- <br /> vert the former Central Fire Station into a Senior Citizens Cen <br /> ter. Part of the grant application outlines the establishment of <br /> an ongoing committee to continue the Town's past efforts at in- <br /> volving the public in this project. <br /> There is hereby established a 7 member ad hoc Senior Center Ad- <br /> visory Committee to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen, and <br /> to be made up as follows: <br /> - one member of the Council on Aging, to be recommended by <br /> the Council; <br /> - one member of the Board of Selectmen to be appointed by <br /> the Board; <br /> - one member of the Historical Commission, to be recommended <br /> by the Commission; <br /> - four residents of the community at large. In considering <br /> these members the Board of Selectmen will attempt to include <br /> neighborhood residents, owners/operators of businesses in or <br /> adjacent to the neighborhood, senior citizens in Reading, <br /> minorities, representatives of Senior Citizen groups, and <br /> users of the current Senior Citizen facility. <br /> The ad hoc Senior Center Advisory Committee will have the follow- <br /> ing as its charge: <br /> - review and comment upon detailed plans for the center; <br /> ............. <br /> - monitor on a monthly basis the progress of the construc- <br /> tion activity on the site through tour(s) given by the <br /> project director; <br /> - hear grievances on displacement or relocation issues; <br /> - provide advice as requested on any issue relative to the <br /> project. <br /> The Director of Elder Services shall be the staff liaison to the <br /> Committee. The Committee shall be dissolved upon the substantial <br /> completion of the project. <br />
