<br />Council on Aging Board Meeting <br />Monday, November 6, 2006 <br />Reading Senior Center - Game Room <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Present: Edwina Kasper, Sally Hoyt, Ruth Goldberg, Stacey Bertocchi, Marguerite Bosnian, Dawn Folopolous (staff), Margaret <br />Havey, Charlie McDonald (associate members). <br />Absent:Barbara Powers, Carole Scrima, Betty Cronin, Carol Patterson. <br /> <br />Ruth Goldberg called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. <br /> <br />nd <br />October 16 minutes accepted with a motion made by Edwina, 2 by Stacey. <br /> <br />nd <br />Administrator’s Report for October accepted by Stacey, 2 by Ruth. <br /> <br />Marguerite requested clarification of financial report and COA budget. Dawn explained the various funds and how The Schroeder <br />Trust Fund pays for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals as well as flowers for someone that is ill for at least two weeks. Dawn also <br />explained that the COA oversees the expenditures of The Burbank Trust and the Council has set a balance of $250,000 that the fund <br />cannot go below. Dawn also explained that a portion of the Coordinator of Volunteers and the Senior Center Coordinator salaries are <br />paid by the Formula Grant issued by the State. <br /> <br />Sally will meet with legislators and will propose that the Town increase the Senior Tax Work Program. <br />COA approved by majority vote to request that the $750 Senior Tax Work Program be increase to $1,000annually due to the increase <br />in property taxes. <br /> <br />nd <br />Financial Report: accepted by Stacey, 2 by Edwina. <br /> <br />Guest speaker Rosemary Violante, President of RKV, Inc. Rosemary presented her ideas for the Options newsletter. The publication <br />would be geared towards Reading Resident’s age 45 and older and feature stories of interest to the Baby Boomer Generation. <br />Rosemary shared her vision of marketing the magazine through several areas of media planning. It was an exciting, captivating <br />presentation with many details of what the magazine could offer to a variety of adults with titles such as “Attitude not Age”. <br /> <br />Old Business <br />Need to give some more thought to a new Division Name and changing the name of Elder/Human Service and the Senior Center for <br />example, Reading Adult Services. <br /> <br />New Business <br />Five COA members volunteered to delivery of 30 Thanksgiving Dinners. Currently there are three volunteers for the Christmas <br />Dinner delivery. <br /> <br />Two new people came to a Crafting class at the Senior Center. Marguerite suggested that a greeting card welcome /come again would <br />be a nice gesture. Dawn suggested a welcome packet with the red bags, pencils, and the file of life. Sally mentioned to put into the <br />Pleasantries an invite “New to Town” people come for a welcome packet or have Real Estate Agencies let COA know if someone is <br />new in town like Neighbors and Newcomers. <br /> <br />Ruth spoke to Sharon about the rug being cleaned. Also, the lounge shelve is falling down where the weights are kept. A proposal to <br />buy metal shelves. Dawn will look into Lincoln Labs possible donating some shelving. Umbrella rack is needed with a grid rectangle <br />size to fit in a corner. Dawn proposed buying an umbrella stand for $125.00 and have the funds come from the Burbank Trust. <br /> <br />A request was made that Dawn call two sponsors such as Advancian Realty or Wingate Nursing Home to help pay the purchase of an <br />umbrella stand before the Burbank Trust is used as a resource. <br /> <br />nd <br />Motion to Adjourn 8:10pm by Stacey, 2 by Marguerite. <br /> <br />Next Meeting will be Monday, December 11, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Stacey Bertocchi <br /> <br /> <br />
