Tanner Drive • Reading, MA 01867 -2399 •617- 944 -6755 <br />1991 -1992 ANNUAL REPORT <br />The Reading Housing Authority continues its successful operat. <br />Of low- income housing with 80 units of elderly /handicapped <br />housing at Frank D. Tanner Drive; 10 units of family housing, <br />6 units located at Waverly /Oakland Roads and another 4 units <br />at Parker /Pleasant Streets; 8 units of Special Needs housing <br />at Bancroft Avenue; 114 units of rental assistance located <br />in private residences and supported by contracts with HUD's <br />Section 8 Program and the Commonwealth's Chapter 707 Program. <br />The State's serious financial problems have caused significant <br />operating cutbacks in our programs resulting in shortened work <br />schedules for both administrative and maintenance personnel. <br />This year brought the retirement of a gentlemen of dignity, <br />intellect and good humor, Richard S. Dempster. Mr. Dempster <br />served the Authority for 17 years. Mr. Dempster's term as <br />Chairman of the Authority occured during the expansion of its <br />housing programs. In working with neighbors, townspeople and <br />Town government, Mr. Dempster brought credibility to public <br />housing and provided proof that housing opportunity exists <br />for all in Reading. Many good wishes go with him for his futu. <br />success, good luck and good health. <br />,e <br />n <br />The State Appointee, Mr. McIsaac, was officially installed <br />as a regular Board member by the Board of Selectmen and was <br />subsequently elected Chairman of the Authority Board. Mr. Donald <br />Allen, formerly of the Town's Finance Committee, was appointed <br />State Appointee by the Governor's Office. The current officer <br />of the Authority are: <br />Chairman - Mr. William E. McIsaac <br />Vice- Chairman - Rev. Robert K. Sweet, Jr. <br />Treasurer - Mr. Arthur J. Reynolds, Jr. <br />Assistant Secretary - Jean H. Galvin <br />State Appointee - Mr. Donald Allen <br />Executive Director and Secretary - Margaret K.
