ANNUAL REPORT <br />OF THE <br />READING HOUSING AUTHORITY <br />The Reading Housing Authority successfully completed two <br />t major projects this year: modernization of the elderly <br />development at Frank D. Tanner Drive and acquisition of <br />four (4) family housing units associated with the Townhouse <br />Development (Greenhouse Acres). The Authority is looking <br />forward to future "linkage" family units associated with <br />Greenhouse Acres and elderly units for the Schoolhouse Propertii <br />The State's financial crisis has impacted the services that <br />the Reading Housing Authority has been able to provide in <br />the past. The Authority has had to close the application <br />lists for both its Federal and State rental assistance programs <br />The elderly housing list for Frank D. Tanner Drive remains <br />open to all qualified applicants. Required budget cuts <br />will also impact the administrative and maintenance hours <br />at the Authority. We are hoping that this will not have <br />adverse and noticeable results to our properties and tenants. <br />The recreation hall'at Frank D. Tanner Drive continues to <br />be utilized for many services to the Town's elderly and <br />includes: Blood Pressure and Flu Clinics by the Board of <br />Health; dance classes, ceramic and art lessons by the Elder <br />Services; Singles' Club monthly dinners and Tannerville <br />Club activities. <br />The Reading Housing Authority continues to work with the <br />Reading Partnership Committee in formulating guidelines <br />and plans for affordable and varied housing developments <br />within the community. The goal of these developments will <br />be to provide diversified housing types in varying price <br />ranges, which will include rental and homeownership opportuniti( <br />By establishing guidelines for the Town's housing needs, <br />developers will be able to work with the Town in a public /priva+ <br />housing partnership which will enhance and maintain the <br />current character of the Town. <br />The Authority continues to work diligently to work with <br />organizations and townspeople to create affordable housing <br />opportunities for all segments of the population.
