Reading Public Schools Reading, Massachusetts Regular Meeting of the School Committee Executive Session Date: June 11, 2012 Place: Superintendent's Office School Committee Members Present Staff Members Present Chuck Robinson John Doherty, Superintendent Lisa Gibbs Mary DeLai, Director of Finance & Operations Karen Janowski Rob Spadafora Hal Croft Chris Caruso 1. Executive Session 10:00 p.m. A. Call to Order Chairperson Janowski called the Executive Session to order. Personnel Update Dr. Doherty updated the committee on the Assistant Principal search and the dismissal of an employee due to poor performance over several years. Non-Represented Personnel Update Ms. DeLai provided some information regarding length of contracts for Business Managers in other communities. Ms. DeLai answered questions regarding the length of her proposed contract. Dr. Doherty and Ms. DeLai left the meeting at 10:15 p.m. The School Committee deliberated on the length of the contract and change of title for Ms. DeLai. Mr. Caruso moved, seconded by Mr. Spadafora, to approve Ms. DeLai's title change to Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration. The roll call vote was 6-0. Mr. Spadafora,Mr. Croft, Mr. Robinson,Mr. Caruso Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Janowski. Mr. Spadafora moved, seconded by Mr. Caruso, to authorize the Chair to execute a new three year contract with a one year roll over with Mary DeLai. The roll call vote failed 3-3. Mrs. Gibbs,Mr. Spadafora and Mr. Croft in favor. Mr. Caruso,Mr. Robinson and Mrs. Janowski against. Mr. Robinson moved, seconded by Mrs. Gibbs,to authorize the Chair to execute a new three year contract with Mary DeLai. The roll call vote failed 2-4. Mr. Robinson and Mrs. Janowski voting in favor. Mrs. Gibbs,Mr. Caruso Mr. Spadafora and Mr. Croft against. Mr. Spadafora moved, seconded by Mrs. Gibbs,to authorize the Chair to execute a new four year contract with Mary DeLai.
